Memory Lane is a smart, non-pharmaceutical ‘Art Intervention’ designed to improve health and human cognition.
What if we could help restore memories using Multisensory Immersive Experiences? In daily life we experience a continuous stream of information that we perceive through sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. Even though experience is multisensory, most experiences - concerts, films, theatre, bars and clubs - are designed to prioritize one sense or two senses over the other. In Memory Lane, we stimulate as many senses as we can to access regions of the human brain that were once unaccessible.
Memory Lane is an immersive and reactive environment, sensory tailored for elder residents in long term facilities. We aim to use sensory technologies, neurostimulant content driven by scientific advancements on healthy aging to exercise short term memory, to prevent or slow the pace of degenerative diseases and to support mental health.
In the long term, our program aims to help individuals regain self-sufficiency and agency while their health is being monitored by discrete biosensors by their caregivers and family members.
Our project is being developed in partnership with award-winning artist Isabella Salas, in Montreal, Canada.
Given the progressive nature of Alzheimer’s Disease, it is likely that 30 million people with dementia will make use of residential facilities at some time. It is widely acknowledged in the Healthy Ageing industry that people with dementia form a significant and growing proportion of their clientele. In many senses “Ageing Care is Dementia Care”. Memory Lane designs immersive spaces and digital solutions that can play an important role in ensuring that quality of life for people with dementia living in residential facilities is maximised.
