Research and Collaborate with Top Academic Scientists

At Arigami, we believe in the power of collaboration and the impact of multi-disciplinary approaches in driving innovation and progress. By engaging with the brightest minds from prestigious academic institutions such as Harvard, Stanford, Oxford, and more, your organization can revolutionize its approach and achieve remarkable results.

Translate Science for Wellness and Experience Intelligence

Leveraging sensory science and neuroscience insights is instrumental in driving greater impact, depth, and delivery through informed strategies. Sensory science plays a pivotal role in influencing human experiences and emotions. By understanding how sensory elements such as touch, smell, sight, taste, and sound impact individuals, designers can strategically integrate these elements into their creations to enhance the overall user experience.

Profile Customer’s Sensory Preferences, Soothers and Triggers

Sensory profiles encompass an individual's unique sensory preferences and sensitivities, including their responses to various stimuli such as sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. These profiles play a crucial role in shaping how people perceive and interact with the world around them. The connection between sensory profiles, personalization, and customer satisfaction is undeniable. By understanding and catering to the sensory preferences of customers, businesses can create tailored experiences that resonate deeply with each individual. Furthermore, different sensory profiles can significantly influence preferences and behaviors.

Research and Test Sensory Experience Design

Applied sensory science is a fascinating field that holds significant relevance in research and testing, particularly in the realms of sensory gaming and multisensory therapies. It involves the strategic application of sensory cues to enhance experiences, whether in the form of entertainment or therapeutic interventions. Research methodologies tailored to understand the sensory aspects of ‘play’ are essential in deciphering the impact of these stimuli on peoples' emotions, cognition, and behavior.

Unveiling the World of Sensory Design and Wellness: A Journey through Research and Thought Leadership

We find ourselves at the intersection of neuroscience and sensory design, where the cognitive effects of well-designed environments come to the forefront. Neuroscience provides invaluable insights into how our brains respond to sensory stimuli, offering a deeper understanding of human behavior and emotional responses in designed spaces.

Within this section, we present a collection of thought-provoking articles penned by experts in sensory design. These articles offer insightful perspectives on the implications of sensory design for various sectors, ranging from healthcare and education to hospitality and beyond. The diverse viewpoints presented in these articles serve as a testament to the far-reaching influence of sensory design in shaping human experiences.

Hidden Senses

Unveiling the hidden senses. In our daily lives, we often rely on our five main senses—sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch—to perceive and interact with the world around us. However, there are additional, lesser-known senses that play a significant role in shaping our sensory experiences and overall well-being. In this series, we will embark on a journey to explore these hidden senses and unravel their profound influence on our perception and wellness.

Nature Effect

We invite you to delve into the strategic potential of using nature as a reference and tool to successfully mitigate noise pollution, lighting contamination and other sensory fields in the built environment. By the time you’re finished reading, you should have a strong foundation from which to draw inspiration, for building spaces that handle and redirect noise from a more humane perspective, to the benefit of all stakeholders. We’ll accomplish this by analyzing case studies of well-executed experiences, places, and art installations that have studied the science of psychoacoustics, and applied their learnings towards constructions that turn noise away from danger – and towards delight.

Stimulate Retail

As retail interfaces and systems continue to evolve, the way we design retail experiences to user needs and behaviors is also transforming. In the new series “Stimulate Retail,” join award-winning sensory designer and Harvard neuroscientist Ari Peralta as he breaks down the science and tech behind some of today’s most stimulating sensory retail experiences. From 3D billboards to spatial scent to ChatGPT, meet the brands leading the next wave of multisensory retail innovations, and learn best practices to help strengthen your brand’s sensory presence in this new, multi-dimensional experience market.

Hotel Designs Lab

Discover the science & tech behind today’s sensory hotel experiences. Arigami partnered with Hotel Designs to produce a series of thought-leadership articles ‘Hotel Designs LAB’ developed to challenge the conventional hospitality landscape and, in the process, empower interior designers, architects, hoteliers, developers, technologists and hospitality brands.

Sensing Space

How can we experience the universe that is beyond reach for human perception? Learning when and how to trust our senses helps humans thrive, from under water to outer space. On this series, we partner with some of the leading experts in this field to increase support for space exploration by bringing space to Earth. Discover ways we are making space exploration a reality by stimulating the senses through physical, virtual, and augmented immersion and creating experiences of space here on Earth.

“Wellness should be an intentional design outcome. The senses offer designers a unique pathway to optimize and personalize wellness environments.”

—Ari Peralta, Neuroscientist & Sensory Designer

Welcome to the world of Arigami, where science, technology, and design converge to enhance quality of life through sensory experiences.

What is Sensory Design?

At its core, sensory design focuses on creating environments that holistically engage the human senses. By thoughtfully integrating elements such as color, texture, lighting, sound, and scent, sensory design aims to evoke emotional responses, influence behavior, and enhance cognitive functions. Whether in a public space, workplace, or home environment, sensory design has the potential to transform how we interact with and experience our surroundings.

The Science Behind Sensory Design

The intricate relationship between sensory design and neuroscience is a subject of immense fascination. Our brain's processing of sensory stimuli directly impacts our overall wellness, affecting factors such as stress levels, productivity, and creativity. By understanding the neural mechanisms involved in sensory experiences, designers and professionals can create environments that promote positive cognitive and emotional states.

Applications of Sensory Design

Sensory design finds application across a multitude of industries, including architecture, interior design, healthcare, education, and retail. From the calming ambiance of a healthcare facility to the stimulating learning environment in a classroom, the principles of sensory design play a pivotal role in shaping human experiences. Real-life case studies further illustrate the successful implementation of sensory design, highlighting its profound impact on individuals within these spaces.

Arigami Helps a Luxury Lighting Company Embrace Circadian Science

Arigami and a leading luxury lighting company, explored the profound impact of embracing circadian science. This partnership led to remarkable outcomes and developments that significantly improved the approach to lighting systems and human well-being. By integrating insights from circadian science, they were able to create lighting solutions that positively impacted the well-being of end-users at the workplace. This real-world study showcased the transformative power of embracing circadian principles. Our brand partner extended their pursuit of knowledge to conducting clinical research with Harvard University. This collaboration not only solidified their commitment to excellence but also contributed to the broader scientific community's understanding of circadian science and its practical applications in today’s hybrid work environments.

Arigami Conducts National Behavioral Study for a Major Furniture Company

The study we conducted for a prominent furniture manufacturer has provided invaluable insights into the relationship between the hybrid workforce and various elements such as office spaces, company culture, furniture, and sensory design. The findings of this study have not only contributed to breakthroughs in sales training but have also influenced furniture design decisions, shaped continued education units and marketing campaigns to better cater to the needs of the modern workforce. Our exploration of the impact of sensory design on modern work environments has brought forth a deeper understanding of workers’ unique sensory needs and wants, such as more micro spaces, lounge-like furniture, privacy and less noise.

Arigami Helps Luxury Car Brand Integrate Sensory Fields to Create the Ultimate Driving Experience

In the context of luxury cars, sensory design has become a key differentiator, offering drivers a heightened level of comfort, engagement, and safety. Arigami's expertise in sensory design has been instrumental in the collaboration with the luxury car manufacturer. The team at Arigami has contributed innovative solutions and design principles that have seamlessly integrated sensory fields into the car's overall design, setting new benchmarks for the industry.
